Professional Practice
Audience with David Gibson
Enjoying your artwork is good but if you want to create a business, a market or a website to give your artwork into the world, or if you're stuck with something all you have to do is ask someone or David Gibson himself to help you achieve your goal. There're a lot of markets and contacts around the world, the trick is finding the right one so you don't have to show your artwork instead of your local village/town/city.
Sometimes you can build your own business yourself without any help, when going to other places around the world. When you want to sell your artwork for market, you need to be careful for what you're doing because sometimes you don't know what you're doing or who you're doing with. Sometimes making your own business can be stressful or anxious with your work, so don't try to work hard in achieving your goal.
The important thing is always keep an eye on account, money, etc... because you never know what's happening when you do start your business. But the key thing of creating your business is always ask for help.

A public lighting spectacular that took place on Kendal Town Hall, on 1st and 2nd October 2020 to launch LICAF Live, featuring new work from the artists behind Watchman, the Simpsons and many more. Hope you enjoy exploring the wonderful world of #LICAFLIVE comic art creativity and content.
I've gone to several comic festivals in Kendal, every year to see what books and comics are being displayed on the stand in the town hall, buy them and read them at home. One day I hope to sell my comic arts in the town hall, it'll be fun to do something like that.

Action Plan
When I finish my third and final year at the University of Cumbria, I hope to learn more art skills that I'd like to use for illustration and graphic design. In my final year at the University of Cumbria, I was hoping to learn more on the computer apps for my artwork, because I am still a little rusty in some of the artwork I've done so far and I could use a little more help to get better at it. Photoshop is one of them (there are still some things I need to get use to), the other apps like premiere pro, after effects, illustrator, indesign and media coder. I hope to get a lot of practice from these with my tutors' helping me before the end. But it seems that't not gonna happen, perhaps later on I'll book a session and learn to practice with these apps. What I'll be doing by the end of my third year, I'll be focusing on my job back at home (Arnside) and supporting my Dad at the Lancaster Brewery to earn some good money for a while. While doing that I'll be taking a break from my artwork, because I have worked so hard and did my best of what I can do in the course I think taking a break is what I need for a little while. When I get back into my artwork, I think the first thing I'll do is go through all the artwork I've from my childhood to now and what I do can with them again (improving my artwork). And before I could decide my options of where to work, like working with a friend, starting a business with my Uncle or working with my Dad and selling my artwork in one of his pubs or hotels. When I was in college, my grandparents told about an artist who might be interested in my artwork, so that will be somewhere to start with until I came make up my mind of what to do next.
Skills Audit
1. Drawing
I'm very good in drawing both pen and pencil. I've learnt a lot of drawing skills on how to use hatching, cross-hatching and stippling, added with shading and colouring. A lot of drawings I've done always a little cartoonish-like, but I have been trying make them less so. A few drawings have been quite close to the looking like an actual photograph. In live-drawing sessions, I have got the hang of how to use charcoal crayon making the drawings fun to use. Some of them is almost like looking at the real thing.

2. Printmaking
Learning how to use Lino-printing and dry-point etching, were a little rough to get use to for the first time, but with practice and patience I got better at it. What I need to do while printing is be careful with what I'm doing with Lino-cutting in any artwork without cutting himself. I did that on my first attempt cutting my thumbnail (it hurt really bad). Printing is really fun and I'd like to do more of it than just drawing.

3. Computer arts
Learning mostly how to using computer apps like, photoshop. This gave the artwork and photos I had to adjust with along with some colour and size. I used photoshop a thousand times to help with my artwork. Learning how to use photoshop was really difficult to learn when I was at college. With time to learn and a little practice I got the hang of using it with all my artwork and drawings.

4. Model-making
I use to do lots of paper modelling of trains, dinosaurs and thunderbirds when I was in secondary school, but they never went out really well. In my second year at the University of Cumbria I finally improved with what work I got from the 3D art project, when I was creating a 3D movie poster (Little Miss Sunshine). At Kendal College I did a lot of ceramic work in two or three projects, creating spheres and vessels adding in carvings and tiny sculptures around them. One of the most fun times was creating vessel with crocodiles (both living and extinct). I am also learning to use my artwork in 3D style using bottle-capes, I started to create ideas for Lancaster the Brewery and now I'll be having some more ideas planned out.

My Inspiration in Illustration and Graphic Design:
Videos of my inspiration - Movies and video games
I enjoy watching movies and playing some video games, than just reading books and comics of science fiction/fantasy (like Marvel/DC, dinosaurs, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, etc...), with these inspirations I hope to create my own artwork that's based/referenced upon them.

Where to Work
Since I was in college, I've been wanting to do a career of my own after finishing University. I've been good at art, learning lots of some new (but tricky) art techniques from secondary school to Kendal College to the University of Cumbria in Carlisle.
In the future I hope to do better with these art skills that I've done so far. What I'd like to do for a career, is go and work in one of my dad's pubs or hotels that he owns, and while doing that I would also like to create and sell my own artwork to costumers coming by, either it's at the Sun hotel and bar, the brewery in Lancaster, the Mill in Ulverston or the Duke of Edinburgh in Barrow-in-Furness. There use to be an artist who use to come at the Sun hotel every week doing drawings, he would display and sell them to anyone who're interested. I myself bought one of his artwork to have in my home. Sadly he died of old age. What he did is something I want to do with my own artwork. But since my second year, I am stuck with a lot conflict of what I want to do because a friend of my parents has offered a place for me to work at railway works (because of love of trains) and before my third year, my uncle (Steve) has been thinking that we should make a business together involving with my artwork.
These were interesting and exciting options. But I am very torn apart in all directions of what to do, I wish it was fair that I could do all things at once, but that's never gonna happen. This would take a lot of time to think about. But I've been taking this one advice, that I've always been told from my father. Be your own man.
