Year 1
Year 1- (25th September 2018) Artist Research- Tara Phillips
Website:
In the start of my first year, I was researching an artist that could help give me some inspiration from creating digital magazine designs. The artist I researched is Tara Phillips. Tara Phillips is a freelancer illustrator, living in Sydney, Australia. “I like to play with themes of Natural Supernaturalism in my work, taking inspiration from imagery that evokes a sense of mystery, nostalgia and reflection.” Earlier today I went into the library and saw one of her recent artwork designs from the cover of a magazine of a warrior queen, so I got it photocopied for my art project. Next I find another copy of her artwork from Star Wars of Queen Amidala, one side each of her face showed dark and the other light. The composition of her artwork is almost breaking the rules, from this Star Wars cover, one half is showing the light side and the dark side in the background and avoiding where the sun or moon are in there. Both of her artwork are very interesting. Tara’s artwork are done in fine art designs, but since I’m in illustration and graphic design I think these designs could give me some idea when creating for the magazine design. I didn't use her technique because her artwork was a little more developed, from what I can do. But I may one day use her ideas and techniques in the future.
Year 1- (22nd October 2018) History of Animation
On the third project, I get to learn a little history of animation, starting with a YouTube clip I was shown, from my tutors.
History of Animation:
* 1832 – blur wheel
* 1833 – Zoetrope, wheel of light
* 1872 – Ed Muybridge, first photos used to animate.
* 1928 – Mickey Mouse, cell animation. Each cell drawn and photographed using a multiplane camera.
* 1936 – Len Lye, Rainbow dance. The first animation. Experimental.
* 1936 – Norman McLaren, dots designed to animate to the music. Abstract form of animation.
* 1957 – The Flintstones. Cell animation, bare minimum in detail, lots of looped.
* 1957 – Bambi, given life and emotion. Still on celluloid but more research put in.
* 1968 – The Beatles / Yellow Submarine. Animated on live footage. Artsy, psychedelic.
* 1988 – Jan Svankmajer. Experimental doll animation, essentially used as puppets.
* 1993 – Aardman, plasticise animation.
* 2006 – A Scanner Darkly, film using rotoscope to animate on live footage.
* Bobs burgers, Toonboom software and drawing tablets.
The animation I wanted to do for this project is cut-out stop-motion animation, to make the work more interesting and fun. I wouldn't be able to develop the skills that these people have done over the years, but maybe in the future I'd give it a try.

Year 1- (November 19th 2018) Artist Research: Michelangelo
Websites:
When I working on perspective artwork, I was did a little research on an artist that knew a Lot about perspective drawing. The artist's name is Michelangelo. Michelangelo (6th March, 1475- 18th February, 1564), was an Italian sculptor, painter and architect at the Renaissance of Florence. He's considered to be one of the most famous artists like Leonardo Da Vinci. He did his artwork by painting on the ceiling and building statues in Rome. A lot of his artwork have been known all around Italy and then the world. The perspectives in his artwork are well detailed, and each set is mostly started at the centre or either in middle of a building or a hallway. I remember doing some perspective artwork and artist research about Michelangelo when I was at college, the thought of his artwork would be nice to do a little more research about him. Seeing these perspectives, in his artwork there was a lot of details and tonal across the landscape, buildings and people. In some of it there are people and objects at a great distance from these perspectives, like it's hard to tell from what people are doing and you can never know when you get a closer look. It is nice to do some more research on this artist.
Year 1- (December 3rd 2018) Artist Research: Rockwell Kent
Website:
In the sixth art project of my first year and also my second year ( January 2020), I did a lot of research on an artist I enjoyed getting use to his art style in the university of cumbria. The artist I was researched was Rockwell Kent.
Rockwell Kent
Born: June 21st 1882
Died: March13th 1971
Rockwell Kent was an American painter, print-maker, illustrator, writer, sailor, adventurer and voyager. As a sailor, adventure and voyager, Rockwell Kent has travelled around the world (going from place to place), and has seen things that he thinks that on one else has seen before. His artwork has been used for reading books, like... Moby Dick, Beowulf, Leaves of Grass and The Canterbury Tales. Looking at his artwork do show signs of emotion, like fear or worry for what is going to happen when you see in the picture and there is some curiosity in them from what is happening in scene and you just won't know. The composition of the artwork is strong, format and laid-out from where the character or object is set at. And the colour in them (mostly black and white) is light and dark with touches of shading around.Working on his art style is sometimes hard by either in drawing pen or Lino-printing. But with a lot of practise I will get better at the technique.

Websites:
In the video project with my friend Lily, she and I have been doing a little bit of research about a film Director, named Sir Alfred Hitchcock while we planning a short video. We both did some research on the film director separately, but we were on the same goal and we did little research about thriller movies/tv shows.
Alfred Hitchcock
Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock (13th August 1899- 29th April 1980), was an english film director and producer. Alfred Hitchcock is known for some thriller movies and has created them into a sort-of very frightening and shocking way in the scene moments in both action and horror.

The aim is to confuse people. Psychological thrillers tend to follow certain themes which is the centre of the story. Some of them followed by are:
