Art JournalThis project was somewhat familiar to me, because it's about creating a 3D movie poster and print the design into 2D movie poster. The movie I got was "Little Miss Sunshine", a 2006 American comedy-drama movie. This is what I was asked to do, starting with researching an artist or two, then try to copy some of their styles from whatever film I've been given. Creating 3D artwork is more difficult than 2D, but creating a movie poster is fun. After doing some research of 3D art, artists and the movie "Little Miss Sunshine", I get started on planning on what make the movie poster and how to make it. I didn't use any of the style from the artists I researched, because their 3D artwork was more done in 2D sets, at least that' what Dwayne says. So I did my artwork from something I haven't done in a very long time. When I was a kid, I use to do a lot of paper modelling from year 6 primary school to year 8 secondary school, I made a lot of dinosaurs, thunderbirds and try to make trains out of paper. It went okay but they didn't last very long, so this is what I did to creating a 3D movie poster "Little Miss Sunshine", by using card/boarding paper. From the paper models I've made, I used plain paper when I was at school, they didn't last long because the paper was too weak to hold together. Instead I used card paper, because it's stronger to hold and can last much longer. When I was done planing on how to make a 3D movie poster, I got started to paper modelling. I go step by step for making the poster, starting with the yellow Volkswagen the from inside to the outside. Each step is by measuring, drawing/colouring, cutting out and sticking together and then going through it all. It was going really well. When the van was done I got to work on making the character straight away. I didn't get the chance to finish them all in time, because I needed to take some photos and adjustments from photoshop or Lightroom apps. I'd to printed one of them out, and I didn't have a lot of time before showing my work to my tutors, so I had to improvise. Planning my Movie DesignCreating the Poster Design, Step-by-StepFirst Poster DesignArt Journal #2When I got done and printed, I showed to the work my tutors. My tutors and classmates said: That I've printed the design using A2 on proof paper and the quality of the print was poor. To improve my poster/photography I needed to: 1. Show the model off more by taking a series of photos in different projections i.e. the top, the side, the front of the van etc... this will enable to show, the details better and get more out of your model. 2. Try taking the photos from lower down, because you can't see the inside of the van. 3. The model is quite rough/ropey but this is good made and including the characters on the poster. 4. One the characters of Little Miss Sunshine needs more work, I do not need to make any more characters, but I do need to improve the ones I've already made. 5. Explore and play with the photography elements more. I was happy to hear that there was some charm to my work (the van especially), but I have a week of reflection to see if could improve on the designs. So I get to work on improving. I start with adding a few missing pieces of the van I haven't yet put in. Like the back bumper, parts of the wheels and the side door. Next I added in the two more character. I know that my tutors say that I don't have to add anymore, but because the movie "Little Miss Sunshine", has all the main characters on there, I don't think it's fair to leave any of them behind. Till there was nothing else to make out of all that effort, I went straight back into photography to take more photos of my work and as before put the photos into either Photoshop or Lightroom for adjustments. Here is the best and final design of a 3D movie poster- "Little Miss Sunshine" and this time I've done a lot better in this project, and I'd like to more of this again next time.
